I can’t dance. Can i still join a conscious dance session?

“I’d love to try it, but I can’t dance!”

This is one of the most common worries I hear from people considering a conscious dance class for beginners. If you feel self-conscious, uncoordinated or nervous about dancing in front of other people, you are certainly not alone.

The good news is that conscious dance is not about learning choreography, performing or looking a certain way. At Breathe In Bliss Out, there are no complicated routines to follow and no pressure to “get it right.” You do not need any previous dance experience — you simply need to arrive as you are.

What happens in a conscious dance session?

Conscious dance is an opportunity to step out of your busy mind and reconnect with your body through music and movement.

You will receive gentle guidance and prompts, but you decide how your body wants to respond. You might sway, stretch, shake, walk, dance energetically or simply close your eyes and breathe. Your movement can be big and expressive or small and subtle.

There is no correct way to take part.

Unlike a traditional dance class, you will not be watching the instructor and trying to copy a sequence of steps. The focus is on how movement feels rather than how it looks.

What if I feel self-conscious?

Feeling nervous before your first session is completely understandable. Many adults have not danced freely since childhood, and we can become very aware of how we might appear to other people.

A Breathe In Bliss Out session is a welcoming, non-judgemental space. Everyone is focused on their own experience, rather than watching anyone else. There is no performance at the end and nothing to memorise.

You will never be forced to move in a particular way. You can pause, rest or adapt anything you need to. Confidence often grows naturally once you realise that nobody is expecting anything from you.

Is conscious dance suitable for beginners?

Yes. My sessions are created for real people with different bodies, fitness levels and life experiences.

Breathe In Bliss Out offers several ways to explore movement. Reset Movement is a short, accessible online session designed to help you move your body and begin your day feeling energised. eMotion Dance offers a deeper hour of guided movement in Exeter, helping you explore and release emotions. Back to Yourself is a longer immersive dance journey combining movement, reflection, relaxation and connection.

You can choose the experience that feels most comfortable for you.
